Ля Корунья, разLa Coruña, one
Итак, после продолжительного перерыва, продолжаю рассказ про путешествие по северу Испании. Из Сантьяго де Компостела в Ля Корунью ехать поездом оказалось меньше часа: не успели вздремнуть, как уже прибыли. Для начала сфоткали вокзал и несколько скульптур на площади перед ним:
а затем отправились искать забронированный накануне отель Crystal 1. С CouchSurfing’ом в Корунье как-то не задалось: сперва нашёл аж две вписки, но в последний момент их владельцы нам в приюте отказали, ничего нового за бесплатно найти не удалось, пришлось снять двойной номер на пару ночей по 40€ за ночь. Отель, кстати, оказался весьма хорошим и чистым. Единственный недостаток — далековато от железнодорожной станции и центра находится (но, ради справедливости, надо сказать что мы по городу перемещались только пешком, так что далеко, но не смертельно :)
Самые первые впечатления от города были такими:
Дорога к отелю от вокзала шла по окраинам Коруньи, некоторые дома выглядели вот так вот мрачновато.

А тут у нас небольшой пустырь,…

А потом мы вышли на берег океана, находящийся в двух шагах от нашего отеля, а там:
Скалистый берег, за ним полоса песчаного пляжа, за теми домами — центр города.
Видите башню на холме слева? Это действующий маяк, построенный ещё римлянами! Вот к нему-то мы и решили первым делом отправиться вдоль берега.
Наверное, чтобы лучше было понятно, надо показать на карте:
Как видите, Корунья, точнее её более старая часть, находится на полуострове. С одной стороны перешейка, соединяющего его с землёй (левый-верхний залив), находится пляж, с другой (правый-нижний залив) — устроен порт. Римский маяк стоит в северной части полуострова, а предыдущая фотография сделана с южной оконечности пляжа.

На пляже весьма людно для середины рабочего дня:
Стар и млад, кто в купальника, кто топлесс.
Большинство людей на пляже — женщины.

В воде народу практически не было, поскольку океан оказался холодным: вроде бы и Испания, середина август, а по ощущениям — как за полярным кругом окунаться :)

Таким образом мы обошли вдоль пляжа весь залив и решили, немного срезав через город, прямо выйти к маяку.
Взгляд назад: на горе, недалеко от нашего отеля, стоит что-то приметное, но мы туда, в итоге, так и не дошли.
А это странноватое здание-парус — музей человека. В него мы заглянем позже.
И вот прошли мы через пару кварталов и нам открылся чудесный вид:
На холме стоит маяк, а рядом с нами — старая провинциальная тюрьма.
Красота, её бы в музей превратить, но на данный момент она просто брошена.
А рядом, похоже, находится действующая тюрьма. До ворот нам было лениво специально идти, вывеску смотреть, но, навскидку, весьма на это похоже.

В тюрьму, похоже, можно без проблем внутрь идти: пока мы топтались на крыльце у входа, никому никакого дела до нас не было, охраны никакой там, похоже, никакой нет, запрещающих знаков тоже нет, двери внутрь уже выломаны раньше. Ну, конечно, есть вероятность наткнуться внутри на каких-нибудь бомжей-наркоманов, это да =D Но прямо от входа внутри обнаружилось довольно много битого стекла, и всякого другого мусора, а мы были в открытых сандалиях и шортах, поэтому лезть туда с риском порезаться случайно обо что-нибудь не стали. В общем, если интересно, попробуйте погуглить сами по запросу «La Antigua Cárcel Provincial de A Coruna».
Ну а мы, обломавшись с тюрьмой, пошли смотреть маяк:
Маяк этот называется Башней Геркулеса и стоит на этом месте, как минимум, со второго века нашей эры. Изначально он был раза в два толще чем сейчас: то, что на следующей фотографии выглядит как спиральная линия на внешней стене, это следы наружной части маяка, представлявшей собой пологий спиральный пандус для подъёма наверх тележек с топливом. В какой-то момент внешняя часть башни обветшала и разрушилась. Во время последовавшей спустя некоторое время реконструкции лестницы для подъёма наверх были сооружены внутри центральной части башни, а сама она была облицована, приобретя современный вид. А функции маяка башня выполняет до сих пор, являясь, таким образом, древнейшим действующим на сегодняшний день римским маяком. Теперь, правда, она работает на электричестве, а не на угле и не на масле :)

Налюбовавшись маяком и окрестностями, мы двинули в сторону центра, поглядывая на встречающиеся ресторанчики. Очень скоро, в нескольких кварталах от маяка мы встретили место с хорошими ценами и остановились там пообедать. В этом месте я и прерву сегодняшний рассказ.

So, after a long break, I continue the story about the travel around North of Spain. Ride from Santiago de Compostela to La Coruña by train took as less than one hour: too short to take a good nap. Upon arrival we took few pictures of the train station and few sculptures in front of it:
then we went to look for the Hotel Crystal 1, booked the day before. Yeah, we failed to CouchSurf in La Coruña: at the beginning I have found even two host, but in the last moment both hosts changed their plans and minds, and we didn’t manage to find something else for free, so we booked a double room for couple of nights for 40€ per night. Hotel appeared to be quite nice and clean. Its only minus is the location a bit away from the train station and the city center (but, I should say, we were walking around by feet all the time, so it is quite away, but walkable :)
The first impressions from the city were like these:
The way from the train station to the hotel was going by suburbs of the city, and some of the houses there looked a bit gloomy.

Then we came to the ocean shore, which was just hundred meters from the hotel, and there we saw:
Rocky shore, a sand stripe, and the center of the city behind those buildings.
Do you see the tower on top of the hill at the left? It is lighthouse, built there by Romans and still being in use! There we are heading now along the shore.
Well, to make it clearer, it is better to show it at the map:
As you can see, La Coruña, its older part, is situated at the half-island. At one side, in the left-upper bay there is the city beach, in the right-bottom bay there is the city port. The Roman lighthouse stays at the North of the half-island, while the previous picture is taken from the South end of the beach.

I’d say there were a lot of people at the beach for the middle of working day:
Young and old, some wearing swimming suites and some topless.
Most of the people at the beach were women.

There were almost no people swimming in open water, because the ocean turned out to be very cold: it is Spain, middle of August, but it felt like a swimming behind the polar circle :)

So we went around the whole beach and were approaching to the lighthouse.
A view backward: there is something interesting on top of the mountain next to our hotel. But, finally, we didn’t have time to go there and find out, what was it.
And this strange sail-shape building is the Museum of Human. We will visit later.
So, after few more blocks we saw a really nice view:

So beautiful! Should be converted into museum, but at the moment it is just abandoned.
Next to it is something looking as a working prison. Well, we were actually lazy to go to the entrance to check what is it, but it looks like a prison for sure.

Well, it seems that it is possible to go inside the prison without problems: while we were hanging around the entrance, nobody paid any attention to us: no security, no prohibition signs, all the door were already opened and breached before us. More real problem can be to meet inside some freaky homeless people or drug addicts =D But immediately after the entrance we found a lot of broken glass at the floor and other garbage, and we were wearing just an open sandals and shorts, so we decided not to take a risk to cut our feet occasionally, and not to enter. So, if you are interested to know more about the prison, try to Google something like “La Antigua Cárcel Provincial de A Coruña”.
So we failed to explore the prison and went to see the lighthouse:
The lighthouse is called Tower of Hercules and it stays at this place, at least, from the II A. D. Originally it was almost twice thicker cause there was an outer part with the ramp for carrying fuel on top (you can see spiral line around the lighthouse wall at the next picture, it marks how the ramp went to the top). At some moment the outer part of the tower decayed and collapsed, so after restoration some time later the stairs to go on top were constructed inside the central part of the tower, while the outer wall was tiled, as it is today. Year, the tower still works like a lighthouse, so it is the oldest Roman lighthouse still in use today, well, of course, now it works on electricity, not on coal or oil anymore :)

From the lighthouse we headed forward the city center, looking at the restaurants we were encountering on our way. Very soon we found a place with good lunch deal, just few blocks away from the lighthouse, and stayed there to have the lunch. So I’ll interrupt the story at this place.
